The Federal Regulatory Process: Facts and Myths

Hudson Institute will host Casey B. Mulligan, professor of economics at the University of Chicago and former chief economist for President Trump’s White House Council of Economic Advisers, for a discussion on the federal regulatory process. Professor Mulligan will discuss his view that much of the federal regulation, and deregulation, created has little to do with environmental effects or other externalities, and is implemented with minimal cost-benefit analysis. The discussion, moderated by Hudson’s Harold Furchtgott-Roth, will focus on highlights of federal regulation since 2017, provide historical context, and connect it with the new regulatory budgeting procedures implemented at the Office of Management and Budget.
Casey B. Mulligan, Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago, received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago in 1993. Mulligan has written widely on discrepancies between economic analysis and conventional wisdom.
